Inside the Mind of Gibby- Episode 2- The Wheels on the Bus Go…

July 5, 2017

Last summer the ministry purchased a 1996 Ford 26 passenger bus for our team. It wasn’t beautiful, but one of the greatest selling points of the bus was that it had new brakes and new tires.  We knew the AC needed work, but we had a bus! The IL Saints had been carpooling to prison for years and this bus would give us the opportunity to finally travel together in…

“I’ll Just Plan on Meeting You at the Airport in Pittsburgh!”- Ohio Crusade and Jacksonville Preview

June 30, 2017

There are several things that I had planned not to say this week. Things such as: “That was a brilliant move by the Chicago Bears management to acquire that quarterback“ or “I wish my Maserati got better in town gas mileage“ or “I just knew that those good folks in Springfield would get that whole budget thing figured out!“-  (Must be a resident of Illinois to understand this one!) Also included…

June 30, 2017

This is the first episode of “Inside the Mind of Gibby”, which is going to be a re-occurring column in The Saints Prison Ministry’s quarterly newsletter, The Insider.  I hope to offer a (lighter) look inside of what it is like to be on the road with the Saints Prison Ministry during the season and during our Crusades!  Please enjoy!    Remove the Sharp Objects from the Room! One of my…

Don’t Go Through Every Open Door!- Vandalia Follow Up

June 11, 2017

Typically when we are on the road in the morning to visit a prison we stop for breakfast, get snacks, and use the bathroom.  Yesterday we stopped and purchased rope, a pocket knife, and duct tape.   These are traditionally things that the Saints Prison Ministry handbook, and pretty much every prison TV show says that you really shouldn’t purchase prior to going to prison! The day started at 3:30…

Early Morning Visit to Vandalia Correctional Center

June 10, 2017

Tomorrow we are making our second visit ever to Vandalia Correctional Center.  Last year we saw 13 men make decisions to follow Jesus.  We are really looking forward to heading back tomorrow morning!  Here are a few specific prayer requests for the day: We leave Morton at 4:30 am to head south.  This will also be the longest trip we have ever taken with our bus.  Please pray for alarm…

Pontiac Visit Follow Up

May 24, 2017

Pontiac Correctional Center was built in 1871.  (Ironically, that is the first official documented season of Major League Baseball!)  Pontiac is one of the oldest and most historic prisons in the United States.  The exterior of the building is brick and intimidating.  The towers loom over the corners of the perimeter of the facility.  Yet, inside the walls of this prison, God was preparing the hearts of men who needed…

The Blessing of Going to Pontiac is…

May 13, 2017

The blessing of traveling to Pontiac is…going to be delayed by one week! The prison called yesterday to inform us that a situation had come up that is going to prevent us from visiting this weekend but they worked quickly and we are scheduled to visit NEXT weekend. In the meantime, that gives us an extra week to pray for our rescheduled visit to Pontiac.  I have had a lot…

Pray for us as we prepare for the Lions and Pontiac

April 23, 2017

Yesterday we had a team practice and started the on-the-field preparation for the 2017 Season Opener at Pontiac Correctional Center.  We spent time working on infield practice, hitting cut-off men, and hitting some batting practice home runs.  The physical preparation is always good, but the real preparation for the season will have to be spent on our knees in prayer as we prepare to share the Gospel in a very…

2017 Louisiana Crusade Day 5

March 26, 2017

My personal threshold for enduring trips like these are generally three days.  After three days, I am no longer running at full mental capacity and the physical ailments start to become a distraction.  It is hard to be sharp in a conversation because you are thinking about what time flights leave and seeing your family when you get home.  Still, regardless of how sharp or dull our senses are, Day…
