August 26, 2016

Last week at this time I was with my Crusade team heading to Green Bay Wisconsin for our fourth day of ministering inside prison.  A week later and 476 miles the other direction, my Central Illinois Saints team is preparing to head to the Southern part of Illinois and visit Centralia Correctional Center.  This will be our first visit to Centralia and we are looking forward to visiting with four…

Wisconsin Crusade Day 6 Update and Crusade Wrap Up

August 26, 2016

I grew up as the last house on the street that wasn’t a farm.  If I walked out my house and faced south, it was mostly houses of middle america suburbia, nice yards, and kids playing baseball.  If I turned around and faced the north it was hayfields, cows, and corn.  The country home that I grew up in had a nice basketball hoop but had a farmer’s driveway with…

Wisconsin Crusade Day 5 Update

August 24, 2016

Day 5 started out as a long rainy drive from our hotel in Stevens Point to Black River Falls.  When we got to the prison, we were greeted at the front door by the recreation director who told us that all of the outdoor activity had been cancelled for the day but we had a day of volleyball and bags in the gym.  Our team adapted well to spending time…

Wisconsin Crusade Day 4 Update

August 24, 2016

“Our number one goal is to beat Green Bay.”-  Former Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith Our schedule had us visiting Sanger Powers Correctional Center for a noon set of games.  Unfortunately, Sanger Powers had to cancel and we spent the morning walking around Lambeau Field.  Being a Chicago Bears fan, I naturally hate everything about the Green Bay Packers but seeing Lambeau was cool!  (Note-  The word hate is strong…

Wisconsin Crusade Day 3 Update

August 19, 2016

Yesterday was another great yet interesting day in prison.  We had the opportunity to return to Racine CI for another two games and the opportunity to speak to two additional populations.  We won an abbreviated game before yard time was called.  We only had a few minutes to share the Gospel and I had to do a shortened version of the message I prepared.  It was an interesting experience but…

Badgers, Bats, & Bibles 2016 Wisconsin Crusade Today marks five years since I had just returned from playing softball in four different Ohio prisons on my first trip with the Saints Prison Ministry.  The team that I got to minister with was the team that was based out of New Jersey.  New Jersey is where the ministry started and this team was a special group of guys who spent several years being the…

2 Prisons, 5 Games, and Some Great Stories! Jacksonville and Pittsfield Update

August 9, 2016

This last weekend was our second ever trip to both the Pittsfield Work Camp and Jacksonville Correctional Center. The Pittsfield Work Camp is a little off the beaten path and there is actually a cattle farm on the other side of the outfield fence.  The quaint farm scenery, the grass infield, and the morning sunrise made it a beautiful morning to play softball in the Midwest.  The men there were…

Saints Return to Pittsfield and Jacksonville

August 6, 2016

Today we are on our way to the Pittsfield Work Camp and Jacksonville Correctional Center.  Last year we had some great times and saw God do some incredible things!   (Click here for details about last year’s visit!). These two facilities are our only two prisons on this year’s schedule that we have been to before.  We are looking forward to seeing some old faces and meeting some new ones as well….
