Tomorrow’s visit to FCI Greenville has been cancelled. It is always a tough thing to hear that a prison visit is cancelled. Especially when it is the first visit of the year. After having some time to process this, my reaction was,
Please don’t get me wrong as I am disappointed that we won’t be able to hang out with some good friends that we have made over the years at Greenville. It is also disappointing that we won’t have the opportunity to share the Gospel with those who have never heard it.
There are a few reasons that this is a “Good” thing.
1. We picked up another prison to go to!
Upon hearing of the cancellation our regional director worked hard to try and find another prison that we could go to but couldn’t find one to fill the May 21st date. He did contact Pontiac Correctional Center and they wanted us to come later in the year. This gives us a prison that no Saints team has ever been to before and a new opportunity to share the Gospel.
2. This gives us more time to get ready!
Our team is chomping at the bit and ready to go but this gives our speakers more time to work on their messages and get ready for the new crowd we will see at Vandalia Correctional Center on June 11th. We will also get some more at bats during our league nights as we prepare to play 4 games at Vandalia.
This also gives us more time to find a better mode of transportation! We are trying to find a 20 passenger bus that we can borrow for our day long Saturday trips this season. If you know of one that we can borrow, or even rent, please let me know!
3. God knew about this cancellation and knew about the men that we would talk to at Pontiac before we even made our plans for the season!
Romans 8:28 says- And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose
Despite being disappointed in not going to Greenville tomorrow, I can take comfort in knowing that God is in control of the season schedule.
I will be sending out another update in the next couple of weeks as we prepare for Vandalia. Please keep the men there in prayer and pray for us and that we would be bold as we share the Gospel with the men there.
