My day yesterday included seeing the sun rise over Lake Michigan in Chicago and ended near the mountains in the desert. A full day in itself!
Our plan yesterday was to visit LaPalma Correctional Center just outside of Phoenix but they cancelled. This is never fun but it is often part of the culture of working with the prison system. Issues come up and obviously the prison administration wants to do what they believe is best for their prison. We have had that happen a few times with our Illinois team but this is my first experience of it happening on a Crusade.
Instead of spending the afternoon at the hotel we had the privilege of taking in a Cubs – Dodgers spring training game! (Cubs Win!)
This morning as I write this it is raining outside. Our plan is to go to FCI Phoenix this morning to play 4 softball games. We are praying that the weather holds off so that we can stick to the plan!
Last night in our team devotions we discussed James 1:2-4 which says –
Consider it all joy my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
The possibility of either not playing softball or even worse, being cancelled, again will be a very tough pill to swallow and will be extremely disappointing. God knew about the rain and the issues from yesterday and is telling us to count it as joy! This is comforting to know that God is still in control despite of our plans for this trip.
Please pray that we are able to get in the prison this morning and minister despite the weather and that we can effectively share the Gospel either in the prison yard with softball or in the gym with basketball/ping pong/volleyball/etc.
From a rainy, and hopefully later SUNNY Arizona- Go Saints Go!
