Welcome back to our blog! Last year I started the blog really well and tapered off mid-summer but this my goal for 2013 is to keep this blog updated with stories about how our Saints Prison Ministry season is going. We will also have timely updates about Turkey Bowl and other family events.
Here are some highlights so far this year:
January 28th– Buffalo Wild Wings sponsored a “Saints Night” at their Grand Prairie location. We raised $137.26 for our season that evening.
BWW Takeover Night!
February 7th– We kicked off our team offseason Bible study. We did the “Not a Fan” study by Kyle Idleman. I highly reccomend this book and study.
February 23– Preseason meeting! After a long offseason it was great to sit and talk prison ministry and softball. Great review for our veteran guys and a good introduction for our “rookies”.
Rivermen Game during the meeting weekend
March 6-10- Preseason Crusade to Florida and Georgia- Brent Gerber and I left a foot of snow and traveled down to Georgia to meet up with Saints from various other teams. Overall the team went 6-1 on the field but most importantly we saw 49 men make professions of faith. We also handed out over 1000 pieces of literature. This was a great experience as we got to talk with several men. We also had the rare experience of doing dorm visits. It is always cool to meet these guys where they are at and share the Gospel with them.
Now– We will be wrapping our offseason Bible study this Thursday and we will start practicing in the next couple of weeks (with Illinois weather we may practice tomorrow or sometime in May!). Our team here in Illinois will be adding an extra group. We have a few men who don’t play softball but who are interested in going and ministering to the inmates during our games. This group is going to be called “The Bleacher Bums”. (If you don’t get the reference, you must not be a Cubs fan!).
Our team is getting ansy and ready to go play softball and preach! Our first game is May 11 at FCI Pekin. This is less than two months away! Please pray for the team as we prepare spirtually and physically these next few weeks.
Please pray for the new “Bleacher Bums” group. This will be a big tool for our ministry and will allow us to minister more effectively.
Please pray for the prison system. Prison ministry has a tendancy to not go as planned. Incidents will shut down various units and sometimes ultimately keeps us from going in. With Illinois still being a new state and the Saints being realtivley unknown to them, we need all the prayer support we can get.
Ultimately please keep the inmates in prayer. There will be men from FCI Pekin in May who will see us for the first time. Pray that God works in their hearts during that time!
Thanks and Go Saints Go!!
